Our membership assists the less fortunate individuals and families in our community with clothing, food, toys and gifts throughout the year. The holidays are particularly busy for us as we typically distribute over 80 food baskets at Thanksgiving, feeding more than 330 of our Pelham neighbors. We also distribute baskets at Christmas and wrap holiday gifts for more than 150 Pelham children.
For almost 75 years, the Pelham Civics Association has been assisting the youth, the elderly, the financially needy, and the mentally and physically challenged throughout our Town. Our Good Neighbor Program is our largest community service endeavor, touching hundreds of Pelham residents each year. Our goal is to provide short term assistance to families and individuals dealing with life altering challenges brought about by health, employment, marital or financial difficulties.
Holiday Food Baskets
Each year Pelham families in need receive food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas, containin all of the necessary holiday trimmings. Last year The Pelham Civics delivered over 80 food baskets at Thanksgiving and an even more at Christmas, as we fed over 700 people in Pelham.
Children’s Holiday Gift Program
At Christmas time, children between the ages of 3-18 living in financially constrained households receive wrapped gifts, placed beneath their tree. Last year The Pelham Civics purchased and delivered gifts to over 140 Pelham children.
Help a Child, Change a Life® Student Development Initiative
This is our newest program that we are extremely excited about. It focuses on the developmental needs of young children in their formative years…needs which are nourished through access to life altering possibilities and opportunities considered unobtainable by children and young adults who live in households of limited means. For these children, we facilitate access to social support and skill enrichment experiences viewed out of reach as they require access to discretionary money not readily available, such as computers, music lessons, SAT tutoring, just to name a few. But to launch this program takes a lot work and generosity. So please be as benevolent as you can. It is only with your help that we can succeed and provide those in need with the same opportunities we all have for better quality of life.
The Civics exercises the utmost discretion in helping those in need. For more information about these efforts, please call Richard Davidian at 914-738-5860.
