Run Pelham’s 250th - a 2.5 mile race on July 4!
The American Legion Post 50 and the Pelham Civic Association are teaming up to host a special running race on Saturday, July 4. The Pelham 250 run celebrates the United States’ 250th anniversary and the Battle of Pelham, a pivotal event that saved the American Revolution. Covering 2.5 miles, the race will begin at 7:30 am for walkers, 8 am for runners. Starting and finishing on Harmon Avenue, behind the Daronco Town House, the course will take participants through downtown Pelham before circling back toward Highbrook Avenue and touring the Heights via Second Street’s celebrated Snake Hill.
“The Post thought that we should have a special event this July 4th as part of our community’s celebration of the bravery shown in the Battle of Pelham,” said Phillip Kiamie, Post Commander. “Teaming up with the Civics made a lot of sense because they support our town and love to put on a race, as they’ve shown with the Pelham Half Marathon and 10-K.”
Todd Cross and Jim Arden are heading up the Civics’ participation in the event. “When Todd and I worked on bringing back the Pelham Half in 2023, we needed to make some modifications to the course and reluctantly dropped the Snake Hill segment,” said Arden, Pelham Half race director. “I am happy we had this opportunity to give runners that challenge in a shorter race.”
In addition to specially designed Pelham 250 shirts, all finishers will receive a medal commemorating the race and the Battle of Pelham. The overall male and female winners will each receive $250. All winners of male and female age groups (under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+) will receive a commemorative pint glass.
